Patterns for Success in Reading and Spelling comprises over 120 structured, sequential, multisensory lessons based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. It is ideal for teachers, tutors, and others who work with students who have special reading problems. The program starts with beginning letter-sound correspondences useful in the primary grades and follows a practical, step-by-step sequence that progresses to the Latin and Greek morphemes necessary for successful reading of middle school and high school subject-area text and literature. The program is divided into three parts.
Part 1: Letter-Sound Correspondences
Part 2: Syllable Patterns, Affixes, and Additional Phonics
Part 3: Morpheme Patterns
The curriculum is designed for small-group or individual instruction. Lessons include introduction of new patterns and rules, along with review of previously learned patterns.
Card drills, decoding, and spelling instruction are provided, as well as activities to enhance linguistic awareness, reading comprehension, and composition.

Patterns for Success Student Card Pack

The Student Card Pack contains all of the cards needed for use with the Patterns program. The cards are useful for immediate recognition of common patterns found in English words and can be used for visual and auditory drill in order to promote fluent and accurate reading and spelling. The set contains almost four hundred 3 2/3 x 4 1/4 inch cards of the most commonly used consonant and vowel patterns that carry specific sounds (phonograms), as well as prefixes, suffixes, and Latin and Greek roots (morphemes), which are found in many thousands of multi-syllabic words. The 100 most frequently used non-phonetic or irregular words are also included. Each phonogram contains a key word, and definitions and key examples are provided for morphemes. The Student Card Pack can also be used for supplemental practice with other reading programs.
